Think on These Things
Join me in the Bible verse memory challenge!
What exactly is a Think on These Things (TTT) Challenge?
As God’s children and as mothers, I believe we should all be working towards hiding more of God’s Word in our hearts.
I believe if we focus on the things of God, the things of the world won’t be able to hold us captive. When we think on God, we’re refreshed and inspired to follow His will.
The theme verse for the Think on These Things Challenge is Philippians 4:8.
One way in which we can turn our thoughts to good things is by reading and memorizing God’s Word.
The TTT Challenge encourages you to meditate on and memorize one verse a week.
I have the verses ready in printable form for you to download and print out (end of this post). You can put it on your desk, on your fridge, in your Bible, on your mirror, or anywhere you will see it several times each day.
My goal is to read and really search for the meaning of the verse throughout the week. At the end of each week, my goal is to have a new verse of Scripture committed to memory.
I have preselected some verses to go on the printables, but if you already have that verse memorized, find another verse in the Bible to work on that week. All of God’s Word is perfect.
Every four weeks, Lord willing, I’ll write a post on the challenge, and talk a little about each verse.
Grab a friend for accountability, and join the challenge!
Let’s start with Think on These Things, Part 1
Verse #1
Philippians 4:8 KJV
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
This verse is a longer verse, but it is the theme for the whole challenge. Just do your best with it.
In this verse, we learn exactly what should be on our thoughts. Let’s go through each point.
Whatsoever things are:
1. True
Things that are true are real and not false. The very best truths I know are found in the Word of God. That’s a great place to start when looking for true things.
2. Honest
It’s important to think about things that are honest. Sometimes, it’s easy to focus on the lies and how irritating they are. But focusing on those things won’t help us in anyway, and God specifically tells us to think on things that are honest. When we are reminded how good the honest things are, the falsehoods don’t seem as strong
3. Just
Just things are those that are fair and right. If a judge is fair, we might call him just. There are a lot of unfair trials we face in this world. But it’s not our place to dwell on them.
4. Pure
When I hear the word pure, I think of snow. Snow is just about the whitest, most pure thing my eyes have ever seen. Things that are pure are not muddled with the filth of this world. Some things that are pure include our Saviour, the Bible, and Heaven.
5. Lovely
Lovely things are wonderful and beautiful. Focusing on the good will always help us overcome the bad.
6. Of Good Report
A good report is honorable. When something is honorable, it’s something we can trust. This verse tells us to focus on those trustworthy things.
There’s one very common trend in this verse. All of the things we are to think on remind us of our Father. Each of those things keeps us looking up. Let’s not get distracted by the things of the world. Let’s remember that our home is with our Father. We’re not here to stay.
Verse #2
Psalm 119:11 KJV
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
I love this verse. It’s a great reminder as to why we need to memorize God’s Word. When we commit verses to our heart, the Word of God will lead us and guide us away from sin.
Verse #3
Proverbs 4:13 KJV
Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
The best instruction comes from God. We need to cleave to the Bible. God’s Word will lead us and guide us through the trials of life.
Verse #4
Isaiah 26:3 KJV
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee : because he trusteth in thee.
This verse is another reason to memorize Scripture. By learning and meditating on His Word and by communing with God, are minds can be stayed upon Him. When we trust God, we don’t have to worry about tomorrow. We know God has everything under control. When we develop that trust with God, He gives us perfect peace.
Each of the verses for these four weeks are reminders of why memorizing Scripture is so important. I hope you join me in the challenge.
