Welcome to Part 8 of this 13-part challenge!
These next four verses are about what we are to do as Christians. Let’s read through the next four verses.
Bible Verse (TTT) Challenge, Part 8
Verse #29
2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Oftentimes, this verse is used during church revivals, and rightfully so. This verse should be encouraging to us. However, it should also invoke a sense of responsibility in every Christian. The problem in the world today is not among the unsaved. The problem is with the Christians. The first three words in this verse say, “If my people.” This verse is not talking to the unsaved, this verse is talking to those who have trusted in Jesus to be their Saviour.
If you are not a Christian, you can be today!
We are given clear instructions on how to heal our nation. God says in this verse that we as Christians must humble ourselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways. If we do all of those things, “then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.“
What an amazing promise from our God! If we want to bring revival to our land, we must be the ones to repent, and we have to turn from wickedness. It’s too easy to pretend that the world is too far gone for revival. But, that is not true. I serve an Almighty God who is able to do anything, including sweeping the land with a national revival.
Together, let us purpose in our hearts to do our part to bring healing to our land. No matter what country it is you live in, as a Christian, it is your responsibility to do your part.
Verse #30
Proverbs 3:5 KJV
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
We are living in very troublesome times. The news is filled with anything but good news. This verse reminds us to trust in the Lord with all of our hearts. Trusting in God is one thing, but trusting God with ALL of our hearts doesn’t come without struggle.
As the rest of this verse says, it is natural to trust our own understanding. But our understanding is extremely limited. Compared to God’s infinite wisdom, we have none. Trusting God is not always easy, but it is the right thing to do. We can be sure that God always has the best plan for us.
Verse #31
1 Peter 5:8 KJV
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
This verse should stand as a warning to us all. We can’t allow ourselves to lose sight of our Saviour. The devil is watching and waiting to see who he can trap. He sees when you decide to skip church because you just don’t feel like going. The devil knows when you are losing sight of God. When we lose sight of our Saviour, we often get discouraged. A discouraged Christian is an easy target for the devil. Be vigilant; don’t lose hope.
Verse #32
John 13:34 KJV
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
The world is hyper-focused on self-love these days. But, God reminds us to love one another. His command is to love others as He loved us. God the Father gave His only Son to die on the cross for our sins. That is the ultimate display of love. We can never love as Jesus loved because we are but humans. Still, we are commanded to love other as He loved us. That is a lot of love. We must love others with all of our might to follow God’s command the best we know how.
It is so much easier to love ourselves. Aren’t we always thinking about ourselves? I’m hungry. I’m thirsty. I’m tired. No one likes me. Etc. We are naturally focused on our own needs and desires. It takes work to love others.
Humble Yourselves
These next four weeks, let’s focus on humbling ourselves, repenting of sins, trusting in God, and loving others. God can’t work through us when we are only focused on ourselves. We need to lower ourselves and uplift others. That is a lot easier said than done, but it needs to be done. Once we have humbled ourselves, God can use us to do mighty things for Him and for His glory.
