Bible Verse (TTT) Challenge, Part 10
Verse #37
Philippians 4:11 KJV
Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
The Apostle Paul had learned a very important lesson through his trials — contentment. Being content is not an easy thing, and I feel as if our present-day society makes contentment even more foreign.
For many Christians today, it’s hard to be content in a small house or a jalopy of a car. But we can’t even fathom the tribulation that Paul suffered. He hadn’t learned the lesson of being content with his very nice things; Paul learned to be content when he was staying with a fellow Christian or sleeping in a jail cell.
I do realize that in some places in this world, Christians are being tortured, but in the United States, we have no true understanding of persecution. If Paul could be content in whatsoever state he was, surely, we can learn to do the same.
Verse #38
Psalm 23:4 KJV
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Fear will often strike us when we’re already feeling discouraged. But God, over and over again in His Word said to fear not.
It’s easy to trust God in the good times, but the true test comes when things get dark.
The Psalmist wrote, “for thou art with me.” David didn’t fear death because He knew God was always with him. God leads us as a shepherd leads his sheep with his staff. We don’t need to fear; trust God.
Verse #39
James 4:17 KJV
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
This verse serves as a good reminder to us. Not only are we to avoid evil, but we’re also to do good. This verse explains that if we know the right thing to do, but we choose not to, that is sin.
As Christians, we have the Spirit living in us and guiding us. But when we refuse to follow the Holy Spirit’s guiding, we sin against our holy Saviour.
Verse #40
I John 1:7 KJV
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Let’s back up to verse five in this chapter:
1 John 1:5 KJV
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
We learn here that God is light and hath no darkness. When we’re walking in Christ, we are able to have open communication with our Father. But, when we stray out of His light, we aren’t able to have a close relationship with Him.
I’m so thankful for the last part of verse seven. Through Jesus’ blood, we can be cleansed from our sin. What a wonderful promise from God! We could never be good enough to deserve Heaven, but we don’t have to be. God’s precious Son took our punishment for sin on Himself, so we wouldn’t have to. All we have to do is trust in Him.
