If you were to die right now, what would happen to you? If it wasn’t for Jesus, I would be on my way to Hell. Let me tell you about how I now know that I am on my way to Heaven. Not maybe, not I hope so, but I know. The most wonderful part of this is that you can know too. You can be 100% sure that you will go to Heaven if you died, even if you died today.
My Story
I was blessed to be raised in a Christian home. My parents are Christians, my grandparents, even my great-grandparents. But the problem is, that doesn’t make me a Christian. That doesn’t ensure that I am going to Heaven just because they are.
Every week at Sunday school, my teachers would talk about salvation, and how to be saved. They explained to us Heaven, and what a wonderful place it is.
They also taught us about Hell, a truly terrible place. I knew for sure I didn’t want to go there. The problem is, we are all sinners. One has to be perfect to go to Heaven. My young brain had no problem realizing that I was certainly not perfect. I had done things my parents had told me not to do. That meant when I died, I would go to Hell, because I was a sinner.
But, my teachers taught us something wonderful. Even though we are not perfect, and there is no way for us to get to Heaven on our own, God made a perfect plan that will allow us to go to Heaven. Since I have done things wrong, I can’t make it to Heaven by myself. Doing all the good works in the world would not get me to Heaven, because I’m still a sinner. God sent His perfect Son named Jesus to Earth. He is sinless and can do no wrong. Jesus took my sins on Him, and died on the cross to take my punishment of death that I deserve. What love!
I cannot understand why God would want to take my sin, so that I could go to Heaven. But I know He did, because the Bible says so. I don’t have to do any good deeds to go to Heaven, Jesus took all of my punishment upon Himself, so I wouldn’t have to. The only thing I have to do to go to Heaven is accept His gift of salvation. And that is exactly what I did!
I went home that day, and I knelt down in my bedroom and prayed to God. I don’t remember the prayer exactly, but I know I asked for forgiveness for my sin. I believed in Jesus and asked Him to save me.
Just as simple as that, God saved me, and now I am His child. It’s not the words that saved me. God did the saving. In fact, I am sure my prayer was very plain, but it was sincere. God saved me that day, and now I know that I am on my way to Heaven.
You Can Know, Too
Salvation is a gift. It’s simple and free. If it wasn’t free, it wouldn’t be a gift.
Let’s say I bought my daughter a doll and wrapped it up. I hold out the present to her, and said, “This is a gift for you.” What does she have to do get that gift? Just take it, right? All she has to do is accept it, and it is hers.
But, what if I took that same present, and said, “You can have this, if you clean your room.” Then it’s not actually a gift, is it? She would have to work for it.
The same is true with salvation. Thankfully, God gave us (me, you, the whole world) the gift of salvation. All we have to do is accept His gift.
Ephesians 2:8,9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Salvation is clear and simple, if you accept Him, you can know today that you will go to Heaven when you die.
Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
I still sin. I still make mistakes. But my sins are now covered by His perfect blood. And because He now lives in me, I don’t want to do wrong. But my salvation is always with me, and I can’t lose that. Praise the LORD!
John 10:28 “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”
