The Oxo Tot 2in1 is a portable potty chair for babies, toddlers, and young children. When my daughter started potty training, I knew having a portable potty would make life a lot easier. I looked into different types of portable potties, and after a lot of research, I decided to go with this one. The main two that I was debating between were the OXO Tot 2in1 and the Potette Plus.
I have been SO happy with this purchase, I wanted to write a review on this potty detailing what makes it so great and to discuss some concerns I had. If you are potty training or plan to be soon, this portable potty chair just might make your life ten times easier.
OXO Tot 2in1: My Top 5 Favorite Things
1. Easy to use
The OXO potty is easy to use. Unfolding it is very simple. You fold out the legs and they audibly click into place. To fold the legs back in, you press the button on the side of the leg and fold each leg in. The potty features little “pockets” to tuck the handles of the bag into, which help keep the bag in place. This little potty is so convenient we don’t leave the house without it.
2. Folds up small
This OXO potty folds up small enough to fit into our backpack-style diaper bag. We keep it in the diaper bag, so we always have it with us. It is lightweight and small making it easy to carry around. This potty comes with a plastic drawstring bag that fits the potty plus some extra bags perfectly.
3. Short and sturdy
The OXO potty only stands a little over 5 inches off the ground. While that might sound like a disadvantage at first, I love the small size. The shortness makes it easier for your child to get into a squatty potty position. Ergonomically, the squat position is better for going.
4. Can be used anywhere
What I love so much about the OXO Tot 2in1 potty is that it can be used anywhere. You can set it up in your vehicle (on the floor, in a seat, or in the trunk). This has made potty training while out and about so simple. I just make sure my daughter has the opportunity to go before and/or after each store. She loves her portable potty, and I don’t have to take her to a public toilet.
You could also use it in a public bathroom on the floor or as a seat reducer. The legs on this potty can be folded outward to turn it into a seat reducer. I have not used this feature much since I find using the potty in the vehicle to be very convenient. But, I like that the option is there.
5. Convenient tossable bags
This potty chair is designed to be used with convenient tossable bags. We just use this potty while we are out, so having tossable bags doesn’t bother me. It’s very convenient. OXO sells refill bags for this potty. I love them because they are thick and we have NEVER had any leaking problems. Basically, these bags are like a plastic shopping bag, just thicker, with a small absorbent pad at the bottom.
You could try to reuse plastic grocery bags, but I would only do that in a pinch. Our grocery bags always have holes in them, and I would not trust them to contain waste.
I love their bags because I can just tie it off and toss it at the next convenient location. It’s not really any different than tossing a disposable diaper.
Tip: After the potty chair is used, I always put another bag in it before I fold it up and put it away. When a potty emergency strikes, it’s ready to go.
My concerns with the OXO Tot 2in1:
Before purchasing this potty, I had a few concerns that I hoped would not be issues. None of my concerns have had any merit.
My first concern was that the bags would leak. As mentioned above, that has not been an issue at all. The bags are great quality, and I don’t worry about them leaking.
My second concern was that sitting on a plastic bag would be uncomfortable for my daughter. But, the bag being on the seat doesn’t bother her one bit. In fact, she loves her little portable potty.
Lastly, I wondered if the potty was too heavy to carry around in the backpack. According to the description, it weighs 1.5 pounds, and that sounds kind of heavy. However, the OXO potty doesn’t seem heavy at all, just sturdy. Carrying it around in the diaper bag has not been a problem.
In the end, I’ve been extremely happy with my purchase and would recommend it to other potty training mommas. The OXO 2in1 potty chair has made potty training on the go a breeze.
